Isabelle Thomas

From a very young age, I have always been drawn to faces — I would try to "scan" them.
My mother used to tell me:
"don't stare at people like that!"
But I started drawing them instead.
I began with:
- "classic" black-and-white portraits,
- writers like François Mauriac,
- politicians like Charles de Gaulle and François Mitterrand.
Then I wanted to go further, to move beyond the PURELY physical aspect of the portrait — I wanted to DIG DEEPER!
And so came the idea of combining the portrait with an astrological study of my subjects' birth charts.
I created my own symbolism of the signs and planets, and this gave rise to my ASTRO-PSYCHOLOGICAL portraits.
Each subject drawn has their own symbol,
- NONE is ever the same!
- NO drawing looks like another!
It represents "the soul of the person".
I have created more than a hundred drawings, which I have exhibited in galleries, including a major exhibition in Paris, on Avenue George V.
Drawing portraits remains one of the passions of my life.
